Recently I was searching for new music to update my exercise playlist. Most of you know how important it is to have good music on while you exercise. If you get a bad song you lose your motivation and search for the skip button. If your favourite workout song comes on then you are pumped. You can run that extra kilometre or get a few more reps out of your set.
In a 2012 study, Costas Karageorghis of Brunel University in London, one of the world's leading experts on the psychology of exercise music, wrote that one could think of music as "a type of legal performance-enhancing drug."
If you want to know why music helps, this Scientific America article provides a great insight into the psychology. Link: http://www.scientificamerican.com/article/psychology-workout-music/.
I asked around the o2fit offices and these are some of the team’s favourite tunes:
- Michael – Thunderstruck by ACDC
- Terry – Bassline by Gotsome Feat. The Get
- Myself – Lose Yourself by Eminem
- Pumba (Warehouse Manager and K9)- Who let the dogs out by Baha Men
I’d love to hear about your favourite workout song. Let a comment below!
